Objective
By the end of the lesson, students will have created a series of portraits that relate and apply their knowledge of color schemes to their images. The project will be aligned with the Academic Lesson Plan’s skills of relate and apply, synthesis, and critical thinking.

Assignment Using Adobe Photoshop students will create a 8 x 10 inch portrait of them selves in two fashions, the first being a early industrial revolution inspired poster using color schemes of their choosing. The second an Andy Warhol inspired portrait.

For the propaganda style posters:
  • Use your knowledge of the POSTERIZE filter in Photoshop to create a rendering that you will trace.
    • The Posterized portrait will be your basis for both projects make sure to save the file twice as two different file names.

  • In Photoshop trace the different areas of your face using the selection tool to create shapes that you will fill with colors from your chosen color schemes.
    • Make sure to create a new layer for the different shapes you will be using to make correcting any mistakes easier.

For the Warhol Poster
  • Use the Photo Copy filter to create a stark black and white version of the portrait.
  • Erase the white background leaving only the black art.
  • Create layers below the art to be the areas you will paint with the brush tool.
